Speaking at an event at EIA University in Columbia on Friday, Rahul Gandhi targeted the Narendra Modi government. He said that the biggest challenge facing India is the attack on democracy.
Rahul Gandhi said, “India has strong capabilities in areas like engineering and healthcare, so I am very optimistic about the country. But at the same time, there are some flaws in India’s infrastructure that need to be corrected. The biggest challenge is the attack on democracy in India.”

The Congress leader argued that a democratic system is crucial for diversity, allowing diverse traditions, customs, and ideas, including religious beliefs, to flourish. However, he further stated that the democratic system in India is under attack, which poses a “major risk.”
Gandhi stated that India has numerous religions, traditions, and languages—indeed, the country is essentially a medium of communication between all these people and cultures. Different traditions, religions, and ideas need space, and the best way to create that space is through a democratic system.
He further stated that this democratic system is currently under widespread attack, and this poses a major threat. Another major threat is the tension between different ideologies in different parts of the country. With 16-17 major languages and numerous religions, it is crucial to allow these diverse traditions to flourish and provide them with the necessary space.
