Payment methods have changed from October 1 – you can no longer ask for money from friends and relatives using UPI.

The features of the UPI (Unified Payments Interface) platform, which revolutionized digital payments, are now becoming more secure, but also somewhat limited. Starting October 1, 2025, some significant changes are coming into effect for UPI users, directly impacting their transaction habits. The aim is to curb the rapidly increasing online fraud and phishing attacks and make the system more reliable. Let’s take a look at the changes:

You will no longer be able to ask for money from friends and relatives using UPI.

The biggest change from October 1 is that the “Payment Request” or “P2P Collect” feature has been removed from UPI apps. If you frequently ask for money from relatives or friends through UPI apps, this method will no longer be useful.

Until now, you could send a payment request or ask for money—but this feature has now been discontinued.

This feature often became a tool for fraudulent requests and scams, where fraudsters would send fake requests to defraud people of their money.

Recognizing this threat as serious, NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) has decided to discontinue this feature.

UPI transaction limit increased fivefold

  • -Along with limiting payment requests, users have also been given a major relief.
  • -You can now transact up to ₹5 lakh at a time through UPI, whereas previously this limit was limited to only ₹1 lakh.
  • -This change is especially beneficial for those who make large digital transactions – such as education fees, medical bills, or major purchases.

UPI Auto-Pay feature also activated

  • -Another very useful feature – AutoPay – has now been activated on UPI.
  • With this feature, you can set up pre-authorized auto-debits for subscription-based payments, EMIs, insurance premiums, or bills like electricity and water.
  • This eliminates the need for OTPs or manual intervention.
  • This feature will help you make timely and consistent payments without any delays or hassles.
