Senior Congress Leader Rameshwar Dudi Passes Away at 62 After Prolonged Illness

Rameshwar Dudi, former Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly and a senior Congress leader, passed away on Saturday in Bikaner at the age of 62 after battling a long illness. His demise has left a deep void in Rajasthan’s political landscape, with several leaders expressing heartfelt condolences. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot mourned the loss, calling it a personal tragedy and remembering Dudi as a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly for farmers’ welfare.

Dudi’s funeral was held in Bikaner, attended by a large number of party leaders and supporters, including Ashok Gehlot, Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, and several MLAs. Gehlot, in his tribute, said, “The passing of former Leader of Opposition and Bikaner MP Rameshwar Dudi is extremely saddening. After nearly two years of illness, his death brings immense sorrow. This is a personal loss for me.”

Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani and other political figures also expressed grief and prayed for peace to the departed soul. Dudi had been in a coma for over two years following a brain stroke in 2023. He breathed his last at his residence in Bikaner, the constituency he represented in the Lok Sabha from 1999 to 2004. He served as Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly from 2013 to 2018 during the BJP-led government. His wife, Sushila Dudi, is also a Congress MLA.

Dudi’s passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Rajasthan politics, remembered for his commitment to public service and advocacy for agrarian issues.
